About My PMEND Practice – Naturopathic Functional Medicine for Parkinson’s Disease

At the heart of my PMEND practice is a personalised, science-based approach that blends the best of naturopathic care and functional medicine to support individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). Recognising that PD is a complex, multifactorial condition influenced by genetics, environment, gut health, inflammation, and lifestyle, PMEND offers a holistic strategy designed not only to manage symptoms but to optimise health and function at every stage.

Prevent — We work proactively to reduce the drivers of neurodegeneration. This includes identifying and addressing hidden causes such as chronic inflammation, toxin exposure, gut dysbiosis, and insulin resistance. Early intervention helps slow progression and protect the brain.

Manage — PMEND focuses on intelligent symptom management. Using plant-based natural L-Dopa (MacuDopa), targeted supplements, dietary protocols, and lifestyle adjustments, we aim to reduce tremor, stiffness, and other motor symptoms — while minimising side effects and supporting overall vitality.

Enhance — Cognitive health, mood, sleep and energy are supported using tailored nutrition, mitochondrial support, antioxidants, and neurotrophic nutrients. The aim is to enhance quality of life, restore resilience, and promote independence.

Nurture — Recognising PD affects mind, body and spirit, PMEND nurtures emotional wellbeing. We integrate mindfulness, stress reduction, breathwork, and connection to help clients and carers maintain emotional balance.

Defend — The programme builds neuroprotection strategies using anti-inflammatory protocols, detox support and antioxidant therapies to defend against further neurodegeneration.

Functional Medicine Testing — Every PMEND plan begins with advanced laboratory assessment to uncover the unique drivers of each client’s Parkinson’s progression. These may include markers of systemic and neuroinflammation (CRP, homocysteine, cytokines), toxin burden (heavy metals, mycotoxins), gut health (comprehensive stool analysis and intestinal permeability), mitochondrial function (organic acids), insulin resistance and glycation (HbA1c, fasting insulin), and nutrient status (vitamin D, B12, Omega-3 index). Viral reactivation, autoimmunity markers, and genetic predispositions may also be explored when indicated. This thorough approach allows for targeted, evidence-based interventions designed to shift the underlying biochemistry and protect the brain over time.

Every plan is highly personalised. Using this detailed functional testing, clinical insight, and patient-led priorities, PMEND bridges the gap between conventional care and integrative strategies to help those with Parkinson’s achieve their best possible health outcomes — naturally and holistically.
